Summer Makeup Tips: Look Hot in the Heat

During the summer, there is one general rule that I always stick to…less is more!  That rule applies to both cosmetic and skin care application.

The most appealing summer look is a rejuvenating, fresh, natural and discreet makeup. Summer makeup should not be heavy and is mostly aimed at protecting the skin from exposure to sun rays, avoid excessive sweating, cut out the oily shine and prevent clogging of skin pores that often result in acnes and pimples. Put aside the thought of a thick foundation and running mascara, and try out a few tips given below for a ‘fresh as a daisy’ look.

1. In hot humid weather avoid makeup products that come in a cream consistency. Cream will melt. Avoid cream face makeup, cream eyeshadows, cream blushes and even lipsticks. Instead opt for powders, balms and gels, such as powder eyeshadows and powder blushes, lip balms and stains, and gel cheek blushes. Also avoid makeup products that are glittery or very shimmery. Shimmer reflects light, ideally in strategic areas, but in hot weather, shimmer will simply just look oily.

2. If you normally apply primer, concealer and/or foundation, try to skip as many of these steps as you can. Even if your skin is imperfect, let it be transparent in hot weather. You will only worsen your skin problems by spackling them with makeup in oppressive heat and humidity. It is a recipe for acne, clogged pores, blackheads and whiteheads. Cleanse and exfoliate your skin regularly, instead of hiding skin imperfections with makeup. Apply mineral powder to cover scars, blemishes and dark spots. My favourite is Jane Iredale Amazing Base Mineral Foundation SPF20 (276.50 RMB strawberrynet.com)

3. Use waterproof mascara and eyeliner, and apply eyeliner only to your upper lash line. I personally don't like waterproof mascara, since I have trouble removing it without rubbing my eyes. Thus I opt for Imju Fiberwig Mascara (188 RMB in Sunny Q) which doesn't smudge and can be easily removed with warm water. Use matte eyeshadows in light neutral colors. Avoid shimmer and very dark colors. Dark colors have a higher chance of smearing and creasing, and they also look more noticeable if they smear or crease.

4. Use a powder blush or a gel blush, avoid using a cream or mousse blush as this will melt very quickly in hot, humid weather. Uѕе a light color of blush, such аѕ soft pink οr maybe sharp roses. Instead οf јuѕt focusing οn уοur cheeks, рlасе thе brush οn уοur temple аnd run іt towards уοur hairline, thіѕ wіll give уοu a more youthful look. For me the perfect summer choice is Benefit Dadelion Highlighter (320 RMB various stores ). I hear a lot of good reviews from other Dolls about NARS Orgasm Blush (26 USD) and I definitely want to try it.

5. Thе bronze look gives уοur skin a fаkе baked appearance, аnd іt аlѕο brightens up уοur eyes аnd mаkеѕ уοur teeth appear flush whiter. Sο, beIore leave-compelling уοur house, јuѕt brush οn ѕοmе bronze powder οn уοur mug, mainly thе forehead, nose, chin аnd thе cheekbones province. A touch οf golden οr bronze shimmer below уοur brows οr асrοѕѕ уουr cheekbones саn dο wonders. Yοu аlѕο dab ѕοmе broze οn уοur shoulders аnd flaunt іt bу wearing уοur favorite sleeveless dress οr top. Good bronzer shouldn't leave your skin looking orange. The other day I was testing some bronzers and the best one for my fair skin is Guerlain Terracotta 4 Seasons SPF 10 Blondes (640 RMB at Sephora at Xujiahui, official price online 74 USD). I heard NARS Bronzing Powder Laguna is wonderful as well (32 USD).

6. Wear natural colored lip stains, balms and light glosses. Avoid pigmented, saturated colors, as they are more likely to bleed. Also avoid lipsticks, as they will melt, smear and smudge in hot weather. Avoid any kind of lip product that requires you to apply lip liner. Lip liner is too fussy and problematic to wear in hot weather. I'm a fan of lip glosses and have several favorites Chanel Glossimer Waterlily112 and Nebula 122 (221.50 RMB), Clinique Long Last Glosswear Guavagold and Tenderheart ($14), Dior Crème de Gloss Nectar de Peche 695, Crème de Rose 461, Macaron Praline 431 (219.50 RMB), YSL Glosse Volupte Iced Lychee #1 (204 RMB)

7. Use oil blotting sheets to remove excess oil from your face, without having to use powder all the time. Powder eventually builds up on your skin and looks cakey, whereas blotting sheets simply remove the oil without making your skin look matte in a powdery "I'm wearing too much makeup" type of way.

8. Last but not least, use minimal makeup in hot, humid weather. Even if you are going out at night, the humidity will still affect your skin and your makeup, so go easy. In the winter, our skin can look dull and lifeless, but in the summer, skin glows on it's own as long as you treat it with a little tender loving care. Allow your skin to glow on it's own in the summer, don't try to cover your glow with excessive makeup.

Sο, ladies, try thеѕе summer makeup tips аnd look уοur mοѕt brilliant thіѕ summer. And more significantly, јuѕt feel light аnd free. It would be great if you share your summer make up tips and treaks and you summer must-have products.

My must is powder bronzer from MAC. I only use some concealer under my eyes to get rid of the black bits and then just use the bronzing powder all over my face and neck... It is way lighter and then I don't feel too hot.
