You gotta admit, it’s pretty damn hot these days, and there’s nothing worse than spending time on your makeup only to have it melt on you the moment you step outside.
So here’s a few tips I’ve been using that will sure keep you looking like a sun-kissed goddess with minimal effort:
Primers are great because it helps take the shine away from your face, smooth fine lines while acting as a silicone layer between your skin and your makeup. My favourite find has been the MAC Prep + Prime which also comes in an SPF version.
Rather than going for a heavy coverage foundation, opt for oil-free or water-based products that will feel lighter on the skin. Try Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer or Max Factor’s Liquid Touch Illuminating Liquid foundation, which make you feel like you’re not wearing any makeup at all.
During the hot weather powders have a tendency to cake when mixed with perspiration. Choose cream based shadows and rouge such as Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Cream Shadow, MAC Paint Pot or Bobbi Brown’s Pot rouge for Lips and Cheeks. My favourite find this month is Bobbi Brown’s Pot rouge in Blushed Rose. Rub a bit on the apples of your cheek with your fingers and blend with a makeup sponge. When applying cream eye shadows, remember to apply an eye primer or concealer to entire lid before the shadow to avoid it from creasing throughout the day.
Liquid eye liners may not be the easiest to apply, however once you’ve mastered the skill it’s a hassle free day. The eye liner won’t budge or smudge compared to powder or pencils. My favourite is MAC’s Fluidline in Blitz & Glitz.
Choose a waterproof mascara from your favourite brand or get your lashes tinted by a pro which mimics the mascara look and lasts up to 4 weeks. Strip offers eyelash tinting and with your Dolls card, you get 20% off products and services.
Make one feature say your lips or eyes stand out so you don’t have to put so much make up on. Play with colours: choose a coral or berry lip colour and swipe a vanilla base shadow over the eye lids. If you’re wanting your eyes to stand out, try the smokey eyes effect in teal or khaki and choose a nude lip colour.

I haven't found Laura Mercier here in Shanghai and perhaps your best bet is ordering through Strawberrynet which is what Elena suggested. I travel to HK once a quarter so that's when I get my supplies.
In response to Elena's note, it's true that Primers with SPF don't offer the best coverage. However primers main function is to act as a layer between the skin and makeup and help makeup last longer.
I wouldn't go for the creamy products though, unless you use primer. Because creamy products (foundations, eyeshadows, lipstick, creamy blush) melt on the sun. I would opt for the mineral products which don't cake and don't melt.
As for the base with SPF it's quite useless considering the fact that you have sunscreen on the face (and I hope you do apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day in summer). Layering sunscreens doesn't add SPF. The SPF you get, is the one provided by the highest sunscreen you applied.
Thanks for these tips :)
I was just wondering if you know where to find Laura Mercier products here in Shanghai? I used to love their tinted moisturiser but haven't seen the brand here... all advice welcome!
Thanks,
Jenny
