It has now become apparent to a lot of the Dolls that I am very adamant about where I stand in photos… yes I have a ‘side’! Anybody who has tried to take a photo with me will know that I often jump from the original side to the other side of the photo. Am I vein or is it that after years of throwing away and deleting bad photos of me I finally decided that I would figure out how to get a good one.
I keep getting asked how to work out your side and what are other tips for taking a good photo, so I thought I would do some research and spread the word. What I found out where ways to not only make yourself look great, but also skinnier. Apparently, all the celebs know these, of course!
Pull your head slightly forward, which will minimize any indication of a double chin.
Pull your shoulders back, push your chest forward and gently (now I said gently, because you don’t want to look like you are actually sucking it in) suck your stomach in to help flatten any bulges that your gym workout has not yet worked on.
3. Turn Side OnDon’t stand front on in the photo. If you turn partially sideways towards the camera with one foot in front of the other than you will appear to be smaller. My suggestion for this is to go through old photos and just compare how you are standing in all the photos that you think are great photos of you. Eventually, you will notice a pattern.
Okay with this one you may look a little silly, but it does truly work. Turn your head away until the photo is getting taken. At the last moment turn back and smile, which will mean that you don’t have that dreaded ‘I have been holding this smile forever’ look on your face. You may need to practice this and timing is everything.
Don’t let the person taking the photo be below you. This will make you look way bigger than you actually are and also nobody wants to see up your nose. Taking a photo from a slightly elevated position always makes people look better.
Maybe you feel one part of your body doesn’t look good, so you could use a prop to cover it, e.g. a purse to cover a belly or a jacket hanging over your shoulder if you don’t like your arm.
Hold your arms slightly away from your body. This reduces any chance of you looking like you have flabby arms, because they have nothing to flatten out against. This also goes well with another great hint from a Doll of flexing your arm muscles during photos, which makes you look like you have more definition.
Have you noticed that tanned people not only look healthier, but they look skinnier? Get yourself a good fake tan, but be wary of what you choose for this, because you don’t want to run around looking orange. My favourite is St Tropez Mousse, which is easy to put on yourself and has a more brown than orange colour.

We all know that black can make you look skinny, but any outfit in one colour can help achieve the same effect. Wearing one colour tends to elongate the body.

Congrats on finding your side :-)
Cool tips Aimee. I guess you like no other knows how to pose in front of the camera. Maybe you could write an article with some useful tips girls can learn from models? It would be great!
I really need some help while taking photos, I'm the one always with eyes closed or open mouth. LOL
Hopefully won't have to threaten my friends before posting pics on fb & co. ever again!
