Boot Camp Workout Benefits for Women

I think there can be a big misconception about the benefits of Boot Camp or what Boot Camp actually is!  I am what you could call a Boot Camp Junkie, because I love doing this kind of activity for many reasons.  Some of them include the fact that it is by far the fastest way to get fit, toned and to look fantastic!  Also, not to mention the huge effect it has on your mood in making you enjoy life way more.  I find it really inspiring and motivating to workout with other women who have their own set of goals and see not only my progression towards the end objective, but theirs too…

One of the biggest preconceptions of this type of exercise probably comes from the name – Boot Camp!  It does tend to conjure up images of a drill sergeant screaming at you to drop and give him 20, but I am here to tell you that that is definitely a false idea!  The first Boot Camp I ever worked my way through was called “Bikini Boot Camp”, funny name I know and again even that invokes images of women running around in their Bikini’s!  It was actually called that, because it was to be used as a tool to get you looking hot in a Bikini.

No matter what your current fitness level is, it is difficult to beat the many health benefits women can receive with a regular boot camp workout.  From a good session you are capable of burning up to 700 calories in an hour, which is almost impossible in most workouts that you would do at the gym.  A well-designed boot camp class will offer a series of exercises for novices, intermediate and advanced boot campers.  It is designed to challenge from day one until you finish the six week set, because as you get fitter you will then move up to the more advanced programs.  The programs are also designed to be as varied as possible and located outside, which helps keep then fun and you won’t end up in that mental boredom you get of just plodding away on a treadmill for an hour.

One reason that boot camp work so well for weight loss and toning muscles is that these fitness workouts have been tailor-made to follow science and physiology by utilising proven techniques of resistance and cardiovascular training, as well as specific weight training exercises.  Building muscle is essential to loosing weight, because it increases the body’s metabolism helping you to burn fat even while you are sitting in the office at the computer.

Another reason that fitness boot camps are such a great way to get into shape and lose weight is that they provide structure and consistency.  Without having structure to your fitness program and consistently training your chances of reaching your goal of having a great looking and fit body are greatly reduced, in short if you think exercising everyday for two weeks and then have a month off before doing another two weeks is going to give you good results you are wrong, consistency is the key.  With a fitness boot camp, not only are the workouts intense enough to provide you with the results you want, but you will find that the personal trainers and instructors help provide the necessary motivation to keep you consistent.

The benefits of fitness boot camps are for women of all fitness levels.  From my personal experience all I can say is that after completing two boot camp programs I was the fittest I had ever been in my life and everything on my body was toned and terrific!  I would love to get back to that again…  If you are looking for an effective method of getting into shape you should enroll into the up and coming Dolls Fitness Challenge in either Jing’an or Xujiahui.

#3 Another Benefit!julia 2010-02-26 11:36
Ladies as a side note - two other huge benefits that I got from doing two sets of boot camp programs in Australia was that for the first time in my life I had zero cellulite, which I thought was not possible and I was so fit that I could run and run and not actually feel like I was exercising! Both great feelings I have you know and am really looking forward to getting back there once the Fitness Challenge is underway...

#2 Level is based on your ability...julia 2010-02-26 09:49
Iris - yes it definitely can be way more intense than just going for a leisurely jog on the treadmill, but it is like any type of exercise it is how hard YOU push yourself... Also, everyone has to start somewhere and these sessions are taylor-made to every persons ability. Already we have some girls who are going to join in and they never exercise so are complete beginners.

700 calories in a session sounds super-intense. I'd definitely like to give it a go but suspect the early starts (and general all-round unfitness) will prove my undoing.
