In my quest to get a bikini body before summer actually hits (if it ever does with all this rain!) I started going to a woman’s only boxing class. At first I had reservations about doing boxing as a sport for a few reasons.
1. Isn’t Boxing is a boys sport?
2. Do I really want to do a sport that is based on punching people?
3. Will I be any good at it?
4. Isn’t boxing just an arm and shoulder workout and not much fitness?
5. Is boxing similar to Kick-Boxing, which I had tried and always felt really uncoordinated at?
I decided to give it a go, because I can’t really answer any of those questions without actually going to a class! I was quite nervous the first time I decided to venture down to the class, because I was worried that I would look stupid and not know what I was doing, but that is what the trainers are for.
The class starts out with skipping, which sounds easy! I remember when I was little and skipping all over the playground. I would skip alone with a small rope or I would skip in a group with a person at each end of a long rope. Basically I just remember bouncing around all over the place and I don’t remember it taking any effort or fitness on my behalf. Well let me tell you, when you are an adult and try to do this everything has changed! Yep, first it takes skill and then fitness, which at the first class I had neither! After two classes I was skipping like a pro, okay maybe not like a pro, but I do manage to keep going for most of the time without whipping myself with the rope!

After the skipping is finished the class is divided into intervals, which is one of the best ways to get your fitness levels up the fastest. There are two or three minute intervals doing footwork, practicing punching, sit-ups, push-ups, leg raises and a lot of other things in between. The workout is designed to get your heart rate up and then slow it down slightly and then bring it up again.
The whole class is based on teaching technique as well as getting the girls fitness levels up and, in the end, losing weight and toning up! It has been designed to teach people from total beginners to seasoned veterans. One of the great things I like about the class is that it is woman only, because then there is none of that macho, look at me business going on.

The amount of calories you can burn in the class depends on you! If you push yourself more then you will burn more. I used to do a great cardio class in Australia and the instructors would say that you could burn up to 700 calories per class and I can honestly say that the intensity of that class and the boxing class are the same for me!
The Boxing / Fitness classes are held on both Tuesday and Thursday nights with Tuesdays being more technique based and Thursdays fitness and toning. Classes start at 8.15pm on both nights at One Park Avenue, cnr Wuding Lu / Changde Lu in Jing’an. I love these classes and am totally addicted, because they are so much fun! So if you want a total body workout before summer gets here, this could be the class for you.

I'd like to try this! So what is the deal? How does it work? Is it a course or what?
please let me know!!
Age!, Dolls! and osteoporosis problems. so, I should worlk out only sweet and smooth exercise.....But i'd love to come and see you Dolls enjoying!
I read that, went back to the picture for a 2nd look and i laughed!!
All I can say is that I hate that exercise with a passion!!!
1)when the legs are closer to the floor, there is a high tendency for the lower back to arch (especially when one has weak abs and cant keep the pelvis stable) and this adds extra and unnecessary pressure on the joints of the lower back.
2)The primary muscles for the leg raise at that range are the hip flexors and NOT the abs as most people think. And people equate hardest as the most effective, (Surely it is hard) and make themselves susceptible to lower back pain.
I have a 20 second video of the class on Tuesday as well I will see if I can get it uploaded - some of the other photos were pretty bad, but I will go through them and make sure we don't look totally stupid before emailing them to be uploaded - lol...
Am in so much pain today from two nights of boxing!
