Don’t know your Shiraz from your Sauvignon? Want to create a cellar of your own but don’t know where to start?
Join me for a 2-part wine appreciation course and you’ll learn all this and more.
On our first evening we’ll increase your wine knowledge as you learn about wine styles and the major wine-producing regions of the world, how to buy and store wine, how to serve it with style, how to decode the wine list and get the most out of your sommelier and yes, how to start that cellar - all of course while sipping something delicious.
Our second evening will see us in a guided tasting of 8-10 wines where you’ll learn the basics of wine terminology, how to spot a flawed wine, and best of all, what to look for when tasting.
The course comprises two evening sessions of approximately two hours run over two weeks and will be held in Mesa’s private dining room.
The cost is 150RMB per evening which includes all wines and although the evenings can be taken separately, it is best to do both parts to get the most out of the course.
The course will be tought by Sheena Burnell (Chinadoc). Sheena has had a keen interest in wine appreciation dating back many years and has been a member of The Australian Wine Society for 25 years, the prestigious international organisation Chaine de Rotisseurs for nearly a decade and served several years as the Vice Echanson of l'Ordre Mondial des Gourmets Degustateurs where she was involved in food and wine judging competitions as well as organising an Australia-wide Young Sommeliers competition. Sheena has also been involved in several high-level private wine clubs and count many wine experts and sommeliers among her personal friends.
In addition she has travelled extensively in the wine-growing regions of both the Northern and Southern hemispheres, and has a comprehensive cellar built up over many years.
Her belief has always been that the more one knows about something, the more one can enjoy it, and she sees the opportunity as an enthusiastic amateur to impart some of my knowledge to women in Shanghai as she know this can be an intimidating area for many people.
Class is limited to 15 people.
Stylish, relaxed, contemporary fine dining and lounging in the heart of the former French concession. Innovative and approachable, moderately priced food and drink, impeccable, personalized service, in a warm, unpretentious setting.
