The next book club will be at 7:30pm on Thursday 2nd December. Venue to be decided. The book is "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett.
It's one of Penguin Book's top 5 fiction books from the UK & US in the past 5 years. And to celebrate their 5 year China anniversary these top 5 books are avaiable on Amazon China's site for 40rmb - www.amazon.cn - if you can read Chinese!
Enter a vanished and unjust world: Jackson, Mississippi, 1962. Where black maids raise white children, but aren’t trusted not to steal the silver... There’s Aibileen, raising her seventeenth white child and nursing the hurt caused by her own son’s tragic death; Minny, whose cooking is nearly as sassy as her tongue; and white Miss Skeeter, home from College, who wants to know why her beloved maid has disappeared. Skeeter, Aibileen and Minny. No one would believe they’d be friends; fewer still would tolerate it. But as each woman finds the courage to cross boundaries, they come to depend and rely upon one another. Each is in a search of a truth. And together they have an extraordinary story to tell...
We're rolling December & January into one so the book club after this one will be on the last Thursday in January. The next book hasn't been decided on yet.
Please register for the event if you'd like to come along so that I know numbers. (Don't forget to unregister if you can't make it).
Whisk's main theme is chocolate, from the chip-studded, layered cake-looking outside wall to the blocks of it on the inside counter with the Whish name carved in to them. Chocolate is their thing. But Whisk also does a good trade for their non-chocolate menu of salads, sandwiches, risottos, pastas and the like. Comfy couches and a cafe/lounge vibe help.

was thinking about Melange Oasis at Jiashan Market but they close early.
Hi Luci,
We don't have a venue decided yet. I think Carole is waiting for the final number of people to sign up, before choosing somewhere... I know that's what we've been doing recently anyway :)

Plus I thought it was worth experimenting for the future! I don't read Chinese but used Google Translate.
I'll let you know whether it arrives or not!
